Biography
At the edge of the village, (unit name) helped with funerals and grew used to wiping the faces of the dead and straightening worn clothes. Even in places filled with tears and resentment, their hands never faltered, and each time the shovel covered the grave with soil, they quietly listened to those left behind. Perhaps because of that, they found it hard to laugh in lively company.
(unit name) often stepped outside at the sound of bells ringing late at night. In cold rooms, they dressed the departed in their final clothes and leveled the soil by the grave before dawn arrived. Years spent close to death left them calm, but they were often slow to respond to the light jokes of the living.
Having lived as an undertaker, (unit name) never treated even a nameless person's end carelessly. Before unfamiliar faces, they folded both hands neatly and gently buried lives whose stories no one knew beneath the soil. Yet the more accustomed they became to farewells, the more they tended to take a step back from new bonds.
