Elder Gloth Soul
When performing a physical attack, damage increases by an amount equal to 5% of Weight.
Each character can equip only 1 Soul Trait.
If already owned, it will be overwritten.
How the math works
Bonus = carried Weight x 5 x 0.01, which is 0.05 percentage points of Damage Dealt Bonus per point of Weight.
Where it lands: The bonus is written into the Damage Dealt Bonus of that one hit. A hit is (fixed + self coefficient + target coefficient) x (1 + multiplier + Damage Dealt Bonus / 100 + typed damage bonus / 100 + target damage taken / 100) x hit result x 100 / (100 + resistance) x final multiplier. Elder Gloth Soul lands inside the additive bonus bracket, and that whole bracket is then multiplied by the critical multiplier, before defense is applied. It is the same mechanism as the Heavy Plumb inscription, without the melee check.
When it runs: Before the hit is calculated, in the phase where effects adjust the attacker's stats.
What it applies to: The gate is the skill row's damage type only: any basic attack or active skill whose damage type is physical, melee or ranged. 110 of the 253 skill rows are physical (96 melee, 9 ranged, 5 with no hit type). Magic skills get nothing, and neither does damage that a passive skill or an effect publishes.
Worked numbers
| Carried weight | Damage bonus | Normal hit | Critical hit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0% | 150 | 225 |
| 25 | 1.25% | 151.9 | 227.8 |
| 50 | 2.5% | 153.8 | 230.6 |
| 100 | 5% | 157.5 | 236.2 |
| 150 | 7.5% | 161.2 | 241.9 |
| 200 | 10% | 165 | 247.5 |
150 physical attack power, a 100 percent coefficient basic attack, target at 0 resistance, critical damage bonus at the default 50 percent.
Rule of thumb: Every 20 points of carried Weight is +1 percent damage.
Things the tooltip does not tell you
- Weight is the summed table weight of everything the unit carries, equipped gear included. A naked unit with an empty bag has Weight 0 and the Soul does nothing.
- It reads current Weight, not the carrying limit, and the code applies no cap of its own.
- It is recomputed on every hit from the Weight at that moment. It does not build up, has no duration and no cooldown.
- The tooltip's '5% of Weight' is a percent damage bonus equal to 5 percent of the Weight number, not flat damage.
How it interacts with other effects
- It writes the same stat by the same route as the Heavy Plumb inscription. On a melee physical hit a unit with both gets 0.20 percentage points per point of Weight, added, not multiplied.
- It shares the additive damage dealt bracket with Challenge, Death Throes, Crumble, Sinking and the Eye Ball and Giant Stone Golem Souls, so none of those multiply each other.
