Leveling & Experience
Units gain experience from expeditions and combat and level up on a fixed ladder. The level cap is 12, and settlement buildings cap at level 5.
The experience required to reach the next level climbs on a roughly quadratic curve: 30 to reach level 2, then 250, 567, 1,017, 1,600, 2,315, 3,167, 4,153, 5,273, 6,531, 7,926, and finally 9,457 to reach level 12.
Leveling is not automatic. When a unit has enough experience you perform a level-up prayer, which consumes mana stones and lets you pick an inscription and pour points into stats. The mana-stone type required climbs with level:
- Levels 1-4 use Lesser (Low-grade) Mana Stones
- Levels 4-7 use Intermediate (Mid-grade) Mana Stones
- Levels 7-10 use Greater (High-grade) Mana Stones
- Levels 10-12 use Supreme Mana Stones
The base quantity cycles 4, 24, 72 within each grade band. In the current build, Greater and Supreme mana stones have no reliable drop, chest, recipe or merchant source, so leveling in practice slows sharply once a unit passes level 5.
When you pray you also choose an offering tier, which trades mana-stone cost against the size of your stat gains (see the facts below and the Talents article).
